[Seeing as the first item in her morning routine is brushing her hair in front of the mirror, it doesn't take her long to notice something is amiss. And when something is amiss, as is custom by now, it doesn't take her long to hurry to his door. She's still clad in a nightgown, not really having the mind to change into normal attire before rushing to his room, knocking frantically on the door.]
[ the faces in the reflection were unfamiliar, at first. and then something clicked into place. he'd seen them before. years ago, when he wrote a story...
there's no response at the door, but there's the sound of shattering glass when he knocks the mirror to the ground. ]
[At the crash, she gives a pause, a small gasp, her fingers pressing against her lips for a minute. Then her hands return to the knob, hurriedly turning it open as she swings the door open.]
[ he's trying to pick up the shards and dispose of them, but his hands are shaking a little and the glass is spotted with blood. for a moment he just stares at her blankly. ]
[Before she even realizes it, she's there next to him, one hand on his shoulder, one reaching for his arm to see how bad the damage to his hand is. Her voice is tense with worry.]
[ what did he see?... he'd forgotten about his parents for years. he'd made himself forget. even their faces. he doesn't even seem to realize his hand was bleeding again. ]
[As soon as the Core's activity goes back to normal and her powers return, the first thing on her mind is him. After a few minutes of making sure everything was alright, that the effects would wear off again and she'd change back into a bird, she hurries to his room, not bothering with a knock before she rushes to him, wrapping her arms around.]
[ HUG OUT OF NOWHERE did take him by surprise. he was about to protest (mostly just on principle), say something about being an idiot... but then remembered the whole ordeal from yesterday.
Ahiru was a duck and a girl, and as much as he loved her for herself, he did miss the latter even for one day. so he just embraced her back. ]
[Even though she knows one day they'll both go back home and there's no chance that being like this can last, she hadn't been ready for it yesterday. She'd been scared that they'd lived their last day truly together in the way she's become accustomed to in the last few weeks.
That fear, that worry, and the reinforced knowledge that any day could be their last may not fade for a while, but as long as she has him... Without a thought, she moves, standing up on the balls of her feet to press her lips to his.]
[ he leans down to meet her half-way, his hands reflexively squeezing her shoulders, kissing back a little more intensely than before. he'd never really worried about losing her, specifically. just her humanity. when they went home she'd be a duck again, and he'd be by her side, but as long as she was a girl here, he was grateful for it. ]
[She moves her hands to his face, leaning forward to deepen the kiss. In a few seconds, of course, everything that's happening will really sink in and they'll both likely be mortified, but for now, she doesn't move or say a word.]
[ ... yeah, same here. he cups the back of her head, fingers in her hair. there'd be time for that later. now was just I miss you and I love you as he kissed back. it was unsaid, but sometimes actions speak louder than words, even for a writer. ]

And that important thing is a pint of Rocky Road and two spoons, as per Xion's suggestion.]

It's like, frozen, but you can still eat it before it melts, like... Oh, here!
[She reaches over to pry the lid off, and then extends the pint and the spoon towards him.]
Here, you should have some!

You didn't explain anything. And I'm fine, I'll eat when I feel like it.
